The Hub is at the heart of the complex, redeveloped from the old gym. It will become a large open plan, multipurpose studio, designed to adapt to a variety of uses and activities, be it a theatre, a performance space, a motion-capture stage, TV studio, cinema, work room or a lab full of digital technologies. Portable infrastructure including seating, sound and projector systems can be moved and manipulated depending on the desired learning outcomes or event.

The Digital Media Lab will be a learning studio situated above the South end of the Hub. It will be outfitted with digital technologies and other creative resources, including digital film cameras and sound equipment, green screens and motion-capture tools, model scanning equipment, and editing and post-production tools.

The Wellness Centre and Workout Room will complement the final stages of the Sports Education Centre. The Wellness Centre will be the new home for the nurse, counsellor and pastoral support; the Workout Room is a space to promote physical activity and extend the School’s sports programmes.

Side Viewing Galleries will provide a vantage point for looking into The Hub. The galleries can also be used for theatrical performances or experiences.

The Entry Foyer will connect the Creativity Centre to the Sports Education Centre. Designed to emulate a glass solarium, the Foyer will be the new point of entry into the School providing it with a modern street presence. It will also give students a space to gather, curate exhibitions of work or host a pre-production reception.

The Vera Street Courtyard will be lined with seating and pohutukawa trees and serve as a welcome courtyard to the facility.

Theatrical Services will be critical to transforming the Hub into the optimal spaces for creation and performance. Included in the theatrical fit out are curtain tab tracks, blackout curtains, a cinema projector with input to the digital media labs, basic cinema screen and speaker system.

Technical Performance Equipment – the Creativity Centre will also feature a flexible suite of portable infrastructure including a mobile seating system for 160 people, cyclorama wall, theatre lighting, and a lighting control panel.
